Documents required to rent a motorbike in Croatia

A valid ID document (your passport or ID card for EU citizens) and a license for all motorcycles over 125 cc. For motorcycles with Desmo Adventure, it is necessary to be at least 18 years old and to pay an insurance deposit of 1.500€ in cash or by card (credit or debit card).

 

Payment Methods

There is a 30% prepayment by card or wire transfer, to reserve your requested motorbike and confirm the booking. The remaining amount is charged On-site. We accept all credit and debit cards.

 

What do I pay before renting a motorcycle?

To confirm the booking and reserve your requested motorbike, we take 30% of the down payment. The remaining amount, 70%, is charged on the day of the rental. Once on-site, there is also a deposit charged by the method of preauthorisation hold. This means, we reserve or “freeze” the equivalent amount, depending on the motorcycle model you rent. We make the balance unavailable until you return the motorcycle. This is the motorcycle rental liability insurance in case of any damage or theft.

 

What equipment does the rental price include?

It includes the motorcycle, top and side Givi Trakker Outback cases, mobile phone motorcycle mount holder and USB plug, and taxes.

 

Is there a minimum of booking days applied?

There is no minimum or maximum of booking days.

 

How is the booking fee counted?

We count, every motorcycle hire, on a 24 hours basis. That means, if you rent a motorcycle from 9AM you need to return it till 9 AM next day. If you return it after 9 AM, for example at 14PM, you will be charged for 48 hours. If you are up to two hours late, you will be charged €30

 

Is there an age limitation for motorcycle rental?

You need to be at least 21 years old and have at least 2 years of driving experience.

 

How to get to and from Split Airport?

Desmo Adventure will pick up and drop off customers’ motorcycles at the airport. As airport motorbike delivery is available with a fee across Croatia, you may go on a motorcycle rental journey right there at the airport.

 

Do I need an international driving permit to rent a motorbike in Croatia?

Yes, you need an international driving permit (IDP) in addition to your valid driving license to rent a motorbike in Croatia. The IDP must be issued in the same country as your driving license. If you are an EU citizen you do not need an international driving permit.

Can I rent a motorbike in Croatia if I don't have a credit card?

Most motorbike rental companies in Croatia require a credit card as a security deposit. However, Desmo Adventure accepts cash or you can buy deposit insurance in one of our packages.

What happens in case of motorcycle damage?

Before completing the rental process you can choose one of our packages and secure your deposit, or upfront we take a 1500€ deposit. Any motorcycle small damages are covered by the deposit. The rest is covered by our insurance.

 

Can I cross the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro?

You are good to cross the borders for free with our Standard Package or with a €10 fee per day. Just prepare your documents; passport and vehicle documents.

 

Am I obligated to wear a safety vest in Croatia?

It is highly recommended to be as visible as you can, but it is not mandatory to wear a safety vest. By law, motorcycle drivers are required to drive with lights on during all seasons.

 

What driving regulations are there in Croatia?

On roads in Croatia, there apply four general speed limits: 50 km/h (31 mph) within inhabited places or where explicitly permitted up to 80 km/h (50 mph), 90 km/h (56 mph) outside inhabited places, on expressways 110 km/h (68 mph) and 130 km/h (81 mph) on highways.

 

Alcohol limit on roads in Croatia

For young drivers, under the age of 25, it is illegal to have any alcohol in their blood system. Drivers over the age of 25 have a limit of 0.5%. There are severe fines that apply if you reject alcohol and drug testing when stopped by the police.
